Maastricht Memorial Stone, Biggin Hill

The Maastricht stone was donated from the people of the Netherlands to commemorate RAF support for the Dutch Resistance during WWII. Three hundred Dutch airmen fled to Britain after the Netherlands was invaded in May 1940. Dutch Squadron 322 flew from Biggin Hill.
The block is a piece of Maastricht limestone, a relatively soft, highly pure limestone, now in poor condition. HOLT's grant is enabling the memorial stone to be cleaned, repaired and repositioned on a new base in a more prominent position within the garden.
