Rio Cinema, Dalston
Restoration of the exterior canopy
The Rio Cinema is one of London's best preserved 1930s cinemas, little changed since its design by Frank Ernest Bromige in 1937. Originally a 1909 silent movie palace, it was rebuilt by Bromige with white ribbed plaster in his streamlined Art Deco style. The plasterwork is damaged and the cinema's exterior is being restored. HOLT has given a grant towards the cinema canopy.
