Pimp Hall Dovecote

Restoration of the glover

Pimp Hall Nature Reserve, Kings Road, Chingford, E4 7HR

In the 15th century Sir John Gower, Groom of the Stole to King Henry VII, held the manor. After Gower's daughter married Reynold Pympe the manor became known as Pimp Hall. King Henry VIII visited Pimp Hall while hunting nearby. The Grade II timber-framed dovecote is a rare surviving example. HOLT gave a grant to restore the Dovecote including the removal of the plywood panels and reinstatement of boarding, plus returning to the original design for the holes, so that birds once again had access. The glover's missing decorative timber and the lead clad finial were also restored.
